Fleura has participated to the Ride for the Roses for the first time in 2007. The Ride for the Roses is a cycling tour for a good cause, which has originated from an initiative of cyclist Lance Armstring. The entrance fee collected with the cycling tour helps the "Koningin Wilhelmina Fonds" (National cancer fund) for the fight against cancer. The tour, being organized in the Netherlands since 1998, had about 10.000 participants last year with a record of over € 1.000.000,- in fee's. At the end of the tour, all participants are rewarded with a rose.
In 2008 Fleura decided to participate with a company team again. As well as in 2007, the 'Fleura-cyclists' experienced the cycle tour as very succesfull. Taking part of a sport event with colleagues for a good cause, in combination with a special ambiance, new (cycle) surroundings for many of them and excellent weather conditions, delivered a lot of enthusiasm.
In 2009 Fleura takes part of the Ride for the Roses for the third time. 56 cyclists of Fleura put their feet on the pedals on Sunday August 30 2009. The ride takes place in Lingewaard (Bemmel, The Netherlands) where can be chosen from three distances: 25, 50 or 100 kilometres. 23 participants will ride the 25 km. for Fleura, 16 will participate in the 50km. ride and 17 in the 100km. The Fleura-cyclists will be wearing the same Fleura-shirts, so if you are coming to watch and cheer them on you should be able to recognize them.
Several trucks are riding across the Netherlands carrying the logo of the Ride for the Roses. The trucks our owned by the flower auctions or flower companies, for example: flower auction 'Plantion Bemmel', Flora Holland Eelde and Flora Holland Venlo. The autctions have attrackted sponsors for the stickers. As a reward, the sponsors may also place their logo on the trucks.
Fleura has supported good causes for the past years. The interrelation between the cycle tour and the flower branche has made Fleura decide to give the Ride for the Roses a seperate status. Cancer does - sadly - incidence in the close vicinity of several employees and everyone supports the fight against it. The Ride for the Roses further symbolises the three core values that Fleura stands for: Responsible & Human Forwards
